Advice for Faithful Living

James 4:13-5:12

James is coming to the end and beginning to summarize some key points.  It’s like sayings we may have heard growing up.

  • There is No such thing as a free lunch (meaning: they want something from you)
  • God don’t like ugly (meaning: being mean to people come back to get you)
  • Pay yourself first (speaking of the importance of saving—I really wished I had listened to that one)

Here James give us some good advice for faithful living

Key To Victory — James 4:7-12

Submission to God is the key to Victory over Conflict and every other issue we have.  To submit is to make a Voluntary choice to place yourself under God’s authority even when living around other people.  This will never happen horizontally until it happens vertically.

Why Do We Fight

James 4:1-6

Conflict can be healthy when the focus is on finding Godly solutions and the participants are willing to seek and follow God in these issues (Pr 27:17 Iron Sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another)

Conflict is destructive when the focus is on getting our way and we don’t care what effect it has on others

What is the source of this ungodly conflict?  Why Do We fight?

Wisdom From Above

Wisdom and knowledge is not the same thing.  Knowledge is the possession of information, facts ideas etc.  Wisdom is the ability to make sensible decisions and judgments based on knowledge, it is skill for living

Here James says contrasts two types of wisdom – Earthly and Godly.  Earthly wisdom is often applauded by the world but God wants us to exhibit Godly wisdom.  So what’s the difference between the two?

Words Can Hurt
